Publication: Birth of Social Heroes
The Hope Institute, supported by FES Korea, continues with a research project on the visions and activities of social entrepreneurs in Germany interviewing about fifteen Ashoka Fellows. Publication is due in late 2010.


Publication: Tuition goes crazy
People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD), supported by the FES, starts a research project on "All about College Tuition Hikes in Korea". PSPD publishes the "Tuition goes crazy".


Publication: Homo Resistance
People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD), supported by the FES, starts a research project on "Public Suit analytical Source Book". PSPD publishes the "Homo Resistance - Resisting Citizens Defending Democracy?".


Series of Interviews: Autobahn Korean
KWON Eun-Jung, supported by the FES, interviews with 8 special Korean-Germans living in Germany. The current series of interviews "Autobahn Korean of KWON Eun-jung" are published on an internet newspaper 'Pressian'. 


G20 Seoul Summit
FES supports the International People’s Conference as part of Korean People's Action’s activities around the G20 Summit in Seoul. International experts take part in workshop discussions on financial regulation and climate change.


North Korea
The Korea Sharing Movement (KSM) and FES Korea, together with other partners, jointly organise an international conference on "Humanitarian and Development Assistance to the DPRK: Current Humanitarian Situation and Development Cooperation in the DPRK" in Seoul.


Dreaming of Women's Peace at DMZ
Northeast Asia Women's Peace Conference (NEAWPC) holds a DMZ tour for  Korean and foreign female civil society participants in order to experience divided Korea's reality and talk about unification of Korea and peace settlement of Northeast Asia by visiting the land mines affected areas and DMZ, the vivid scene of divided Korea.  


20 Years of German Unification
The Korean-German Academy of Economics and Management and FES Korea co-organise an international conference on "20 Years of German Unification". Two German experts participate in this conference in order to exchange their experiences.


20 Years of German Unification
The Institute for German Studies of ChungAng-University and FES Korea jointly hold a two-day international symposium on “20 Years of German Unification - A Critical Assessment”. Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert-Pottering, Member of European Parliament and President of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Mrs. Heide Simonis, the former Minister President of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, Prof. Udo Simonis from the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and Prof. Michael Hofmann from the University of Jena take part in this symposium.


Different Perspectives on Division and Unification
The Institute for Korean Historical Studies (IKHS) and FES Korea jointly organise an international workshop on "Different Perspectives on Division and Unification” as part of FES Korea’s activities on German and Korean unification . Three German experts participate in this workshop, presenting the German case. 


Hospital Staffing and Night Shift
The Korean Health & Medical Workers' Union (KHMU) and FES Korea Office jointly hold an International conference on "Hospital Staffing and Night Shift" in Korea. Four unionists from Verdi take part in this conference to exchange their experiences with other countries. Furthermore, the Verdi unionists continue their bilateral exchange with KHMU on a 5-day programme in Korea.


Posco India
The Korean House for International Solidarity (KHIS), supported by FES, does a field study on the situation of human rights and environmental violations of Korean steel company POSCO in India. 


Conference on the MEGA Project (complete edition of the writings of Marx and Engels)
Three foreign scholars participate in the conference “A New Approach of the MEGA Project and Re-interpretations of Marx“ in Seoul, co-organized by the Institute of the Humanities Chungang University, the Institute dor Social Sciences Gyeongsang National Unniversity, the MARXISM 21 Institute of the Social Sciences Seoul National University and the FES.


Civic Education for Democracy
As a follow-up to a programm in 2009 the Korea Democracy Foundation (KDF) and the FES Korea co-organize a teachers' training program “Civic Education for Democracy 2010”. Its aim is to improve the ability of teachers to lead students to become active and competent citizens able to foster democracy in Korea.


2010 Activists Academy
The Korea Democracy Foundation (KDF), supported by the FES, develops and operates ttwo programs to improve capability-building for conducting civic education for democracy in Korea.


European and Asian Affairs
The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) and the EU Research Center (EURC) of Korea University, supported by the FES, organises a special lecture series on European and Asian affairs for graduate and post-graduate students during 2010.


Metal Workers' Job Crisis
The Energy & Climate Policy Institute (ECPI), supported by the FES, begins a research project on the metal workers' job crisis & 'Just Transition' strategy. The conference for 'Just Transition' will be held in October 2010.


Human Rights Monitoring System
The Korea House for International Solidarity (KHIS), supported by the FES, develops a training program to establish a human rights monitoring system in Korea. Its results will be published in the "Asian NGOs Network on National Human Rights Institutions (ANNI) Report 2010" toward the end of the year.


A/P Eelectrical Labour Unions' Network
The International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers’ Unions (ICEM), the Korean National Electrical Workers Union (KNEWU) and the FES Korea office jointly hold an Asia-Pacific Eclectrical Labour Unions' Network Meeting in Seoul.


Long-term Care Insurance
The Institute of Health and Social Welfare Resources (IHSWR) and the FES jointly hold a forum on "Comparative Study on the Regal System of Long-term Insurance in Korea and Japan".


Employment Quality Index (EQI)
The Korea Labor and Society Institute (KLSI), supported by the FES, begins a research project on developing an "Employment Quality Index (EQI)". Its results will be published toward the end of the year.


Trade Union's Leadership and Organization
The Korea Labor and Society Institute (KLSI), supported by the FES, begins a research project on the influence of internal factions on trade unions leadership and organization. A report on the results of this effort will be published toward the end of the year.


Union Policy in the Economic Crisis
Dr. Torsten Schulten, an expert on labor policy and collective agreements, from the Economic and Socail Institute (WSI) of the Hans-Boeckler-Stiftung participates in a forum on "Labour Union Policies during the Present Economic Crisis" in Seoul. It is co-organized by the FKTU-Resear Center and the Korea Labor & Society Institute.


Assistance to DPRK
The Korea Sharing Movement (KSM) and the FES jointly organise an international forum on "Humanitarian and Development Assistance to DPRK". The FES cooperates with the Gyeonggi Research Institute of the Gyeonggi Provincial Goverment in organising a forum on humanitarian and development assistance to North Korea.


Reaction to the Exacerbation of Women's Employment
The Korean Women Workers Associations (KWWA), supported by the FES, starts a research project on the reaction to the exacerbation of women's employment in the current economic crisis. 5 workshops will be held later in the year.


Development and Promotion of Indicators on Women
The Korea Women's Associations United (KWAU), supported by the FES, initiates a research project on "Development and Promotion of Indicators on Women: Compatibility of Work, Childcare and Sustained Employment” and holds a workshop on this issue. A report on the results will be published later in the year.


Making Human Working Condition
Korea Women Link, supported by the FES, starts a research project on "Ham Bab - Making Human Working Conditions for Female Restaurant Workers". A workshop will be held later in the year.


Peace and Inter-Korean Relationship
The Civil Peace Forum, Civil Society Organizations Network in Korea (CSONK), supported by the FES, meets regularly to discuss the prospects of peace on the Korean peninsula under different aspects and an inter-Korean relationship. An International Conference "Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsular and North-East Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone" will be held in November and the results of this project will be published in December 2010.


Multicultural & Human Rights Education Program
The Solidarity for Asian Human Rights and Culture (SAHRC) and the Joint Committee with Migrants in Korea (JCMK), supported by the FES, start a research project on "Development and Implementation of a Multicultural & Human Rights Education Program for Elementary & Middle School Students in Bucheonsi".


New Issues of the FES Information Series
In the course of the year, FES Korea will publish about six issues of the FES Information Series (in Korean). All issues will be available for download.
